Description

Sh2-101 / Tulip Nebula

I've been working on this one for a little while, I actually started gathering data for it whilst waiting for my previous target (WR-134) to rise above my horizon. I decided to go for the ForaxX palette again when processing, like I did for my recent image of IC1396, however this time the result was naturally very different with a more classically SHO look.

I actually ended up sinking way more exposure time into this image than I was planning on, which given the time of year (2-3 hours of usable dark per night) turned into a lot of nights! The reason I ended up sinking the extra time was the Oiii feature in the top right, I wanted to keep adding L-Extreme data until it was coming through reasonably clearly.

Now for my "fun little extra" for this image I was planning on doing an extra integration to show off all of the satellite trails I've had to deal with, by stacking one of the channels using "Maximum" and no pixel rejection. Instead I got a wonderful example of two things:
  1. really need to redo my dark library
  2. StarXTerminator is basically magic
